| What happened | Three youth volunteers from the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona joined Watershed Management Group's rainwater harvesting co-op program for a day of water harvesting. Youth worked to build three terraces along a steep hillslope that has been experiencing erosion problems. Erosion has damaged the hill slope, made planting difficult, as water has not had time to sink in, has carried soil away elsewhere to cause sand buildup problems, and the water being allowed off the property has contributed to flooding problems elsewhere.
All volunteers present logged hours for the co-op, which means that after a few more projects they will be eligible to design projects for their own homes, to be completed with by co-op volunteers. Halfway through the project, another group of youth volunteers arrived from the Youth Volunteer Corps. They are working on filming a commercial for Watershed Management Group's Co-op, which will run on public access tv and on limited cable channels. |
