The good news is that there is a detailed Wikipedia entry on national service. And it happens to include the following:

The stated goal of the campaign is to implement universal national service in the United States by 2020
The bad news is the Wiki-authorities have concluded that the national service entry is not entirely up to snuff. In fact, there is a note inserted in the article which says:

An advertisement? Clearly, the ServiceNation community, or anyone who knows and cares about the history of service, needs step up and start revising. Shirley? Zach? Robert G.? Anyone?
“I wrote six-volumes on the ”History of the Second World War” and four on “A History of the English Speaking Peoples.” Surely one of you can manage a measly and reasonably accurate Wikipedia entry on national service.”
