Although (or maybe because) I’m from the Midwest, I love mountains. They’re huge, gorgeous landmarks, and create an amazing landscape - and they’re in danger.
A few sources have led us to iLoveMountains.org - a very cool website that seeks to end mountaintop removal. Mountaintop removal is a form of coal mining where the top of the mountain is literally blown up. Not only does mountaintop removal ruin a gorgeous mountain range, it also has extremely detrimental effects on the environment, on drinking water, on nearby families and communities, and on our energy resources.
iLoveMountains is asking us (as bloggers) and everyone around the country to get involved. You can see how you’re connected - putting in my zip code reveals that I’m connected to mountaintop removal, because my electricity provider uses coal from mountaintop removal mines.
What can you do?
Take Action! It’s a great cause that affects all of us, and it’s a national emergency.
